International Evening 2019

On Friday evening we were all treated to fascinating facts about a range of countries. It was a great opportunity to hear about and celebrate each other's backgrounds, cultures, traditions... and food!

Ningwa, Yuma and Tika introducing us to homecooked 'chatpate'

Sampling the delicious Nepalese dish, before trying Jo's American candies!

Kseniia, Uliana and Polina giving us facts and figures about Russia...

...and then testing us!

Fade giving us history of the Lagos Festival

Daisy telling us about favourite foods in mainland China

Bethany modelling a stunning Chinese dress whilst telling us about dishes specific to Shanghai

Nicole, Janice and Queenie telling us about their favourite Hong Kong dishes

Jess telling us about her Welsh background. Sadly, she couldn't find the photo of her in Welsh traditional dress!

Busy Bakers...

In between sledging and snowman building, many boarders found time to enter the Inter-House Boarders' Bake Off Competition and created not only very tasty cakes but also very impressive works of art! Girls spent hours designing cakes in the shape of food and, even though there can only be one winner in each category (Years 9-11 and Sixth Form), they all deserve medals for their exceptional efforts and creativity!

Yuma's and Kseniia's popcorn cake

Eloise's and Tobina's bourbon biscuit cake

Isha's and Ningwa's jammy dodger cake

Alix and Menina's veg patch carrot cake

Judging!

Time to taste!
Our fingers are tightly crossed as we now wait nervously for the judges to reveal their decisions at next weekend's boarders' meeting - it's a long wait!

Stunning Saturday Snow Scenes

After snow clouds on Friday, it was lovely to see the day dawn with bright blue skies and dazzling sunshine on Saturday. The sharp and contrasting colours really highlighted our stunning surroundings. With the temperatures still so low, there was more opportunity for fun in the snow!

Snow, snow and more snow!

There was great excitement as the snow started to fall on Thursday evening...

...and squeals of delight as girls looked out of the window on Friday morning...

...to see it had snowed all night, and was still snowing!

It continued to fall all morning to provide the perfect playground for an afternoon of snowball throwing, sledging and snowman building!
