Fonthill Candy Canes - 2014!

Fonthill Lower Sixth girls have achieved record sales of candy canes this year and raised an amazing £1036!

The process began with the Lower Sixth’s candy cane assembly when they spoke of where the money will go. The money raised will be split between our two House charities: Nags ‘n’ Nippers and The Little Princess Trust.

Nags 'n' Nippers

Nags ‘n’ Nippers is a charity based in Nicaragua set up by Paul Baker who came to Kingswood in 2013, being remembered not only for his guitar made from a toilet seat but also his charity. This charity allows street children in Nicaragua to escape from their harsh reality and go to a farm for a weekend where they are taught sustainable skills that help them to improve their quality of life. Fonthill will choose where the money donated will be spent, whether that is on horses for the farm or money to send children to the farm for a weekend. Nags ‘n’ Nippers is the Lower Sixth’s choice of charity this year and Fonthill hopes to have an on-going relationship with it.

The Little Princess Trust is an entirely different charity that was put forward by the year 9s. This is a charity that provides real hair wigs for young girls who suffer from cancer; we understand the importance of this charity as a house full of girls who very much value their own hair. Two Fonthill girls however have gone above and beyond, showing real house spirit and have donated their hair to this incredible charity.

After 10 days of hard sales from Fonthill girls to pupils (from Westwood to the Dixon) and staff alike, over 1500 candy canes were bought and ordered to Fonthill. After several hours of cutting, hole punching and tying from all of the boarders and the lower sixth, candy canes along with their notes were ready to be distributed. School House showed huge amounts of love and was the house with the 2nd most candy canes, however Fonthill was the house with the most love being the house that received the most candy canes.

Fonthill would like to say thank you to every one who bought a candy cane or donated and we can’t wait for our next fundraising event!
