Boarders' Bake Off!!

There was a buzz in the Fonthill kitchen over the weekend as girls were busy baking cakes for the inter-House Bake Off competition!  Boarders from Years 9-11 were asked to follow a recipe and produce 12 uniform cup cakes, and sixth form were given the opportunity to create a 'showstopper' cake. The only rule was that it had to be 3-tiered.

The hardest part was choosing the cakes to go through to the final against the other Houses as each House could only submit one entry in each category.  The yummiest part was enjoying the cakes which weren't put forward.  Sadly, neither of our entries was a prize winner but the 'taking part' was much enjoyed by all!

What a great selection of cup cakes

They look amazing and taste delicious but are they uniform?!

Busy bees Jess and Fiona producing their beehive!

What a masterpiece! Mary Berry would be very impressed!

10 out of 10 for creativity - Kristy and Cat with their rainbow cake!
Just impossible to choose between them!

Burns Night Celebrations

We held our traditional Burns Night Celebrations on Sunday evening and were treated to a traditional feast of 'neeps and tatties', accompanied by haggis, which caused much amusement for those who hadn't come across it before!  Mr Burgon was in fine form playing the bagpipes, and students were given the opportunity to try playing the instrument - some found it easier than others, and some attempts were more tuneful than others!
After supper, we moved to the Sports Hall where multi-talented Mr Burgon switched instruments and played his accordion as part of the band with Mr Chua and Mr Knights, and Mrs Brown did a grand job as the official Ceilidh 'caller'.  Everyone had great fun learning the steps and dancing with boarders from across all year groups.

Ceilidh had to conclude with rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne'!!

Bouncing into the New Year

This term's weekend activities got off to a flying start (literally in some cases!) with a trip to Swindon's Trampoline Centre.  After lots of fun and burning up lots of calories there, the group moved on to Swindon's famous shopping outlet but still had energy to browse the stores and return with bargains galore!  With a mixture of sport and shopping, there was something for everyone and they all agreed it was a great day out!
