Fond Farewells

End of the summer term is an emotional rollercoaster with the highs of the summer holidays to look forward to but the lows of the many goodbyes to all students leaving Kingswood.  Cielle and Bella summed up the final term in an equally impressive and amusing way as they had done for us at Christmas and Easter (see below).  We wish them, all their peers and all girls in younger years who are leaving for pastures new much happiness and success as they start new life chapters.

For the last ever time, we’ve written you a rhyme. This term has been packed full to the brim, there’s a lot to tell but we’ll keep it trim.

The year 10 D of E trip happened a few weekends ago, and the efforts by all were quite a show. This adventure entailed trapesing up and down hills and through the countryside, and the groups took it all comfortably in their stride. With having made great memories, many were exhausted by the end, and Emily has learnt on sun cream to depend.

The yearly boarders’ BBQ brought out the sun, though it was rather cold which wasn’t much fun. Ice cream was served in the warmth of the creed, and the termly boarders’ meeting began to proceed. Suggestions came flowing at a rapid pace, including Hannah Sanford’s idea of an egg and spoon race.

There were also some impressive performances at Green Park this year, with KJO and the singers taking it up a gear. Our very own head chorister Grace led the singing, getting the audience up and swinging. The standard throughout was exceptionally high, and raised the roof up to the sky.

Other musical performances include those of Jess, Chloe and Izzy in year nine, being cast in “Dust” where they could really shine. It was great to see so many Fonthill girls appear, in the Year 9 and 10 choral concert where they sang with no fear.

Fonthill has also had many sporting achievements this term, with many exceptional efforts from which we could all learn. Starting with Athletics, we’ve been represented well, with Hattie being a great captain we were bound to excel. Livi Gauntlett has also had some outstanding races, and Lucy Rowlands has also put many competitors through their paces.

The swimmers in Fonthill have had plenty of wins this term, and at the swimming House gala their talent was confirmed. Cielle, Esmee, Meg and Izzy won the open girls relay by some distance, a just reward for their training and persistence. Charlotte Penney has also been on outstanding form, and her excellent results have gone down a storm.

There are many talented tennis players within Fonthill, with much helpful coaching to develop their skills. With four of the first team, Mrs Sergeant and Miss Wright, and many talented juniors coming up, the future looks bright.

The annual Senior Prefects dinner was held in the dining hall, Mr Opie and the staff gave their thanks to all. The speech given by Mr Opie provided much laughter, and will be remembered now and for many years after.

Muck up day this year brought with it the horror theme, and the Dixon House of Horror produced many a scream! Special mention must go to Jess Norton for the loss of her massive size 8 shoe, what happened to it, nobody knew.

Between all of these events and the cheerful chatter, many of us came across a more serious matter. The summer term brings with it exams and revision, and not much scope for watching television. Well done to all of us, who’ve got through this time, a long summer break will seem just sublime. Let’s hope the results are what we all wished for, and better still, much much more.

Some will have been upset about the cancellation of sports day, but for the slower amongst us, it was better that way. For House entertainment we were treated to the sun, where the fun and games then begun. Mr Chua’s limbo technique was something to be seen, him shuffling along caused quite a scene. The Year 10s succeeded again at the tug of war, until the Year 12s came along and levelled the score. The Upper Sixth ended the evening with many memories shared, with all of the speeches carefully prepared.

We hope you’ve all had lots of fun this year, and enjoy your summer which is all so near. We’ll miss the Fonthill family and the warmth it brings, but we know you’ll all continue to do great things. Well done to Livi for Deputy Head, and to Emma and Cat in Fonthill for their future ahead. We know Fonthill has been left in great stead, and look forward to seeing the successes as it’s newly led. Hopefully everyone will enjoy the last few days, and for those returning in September keep up the good ways! To all the leavers, good luck for next year, and hopefully we’ll see each other, whether it be far in the future or near!

Fun in the Sun!

Despite torrential rain having caused Sports Day to be cancelled, the weather was kind to us a few hours later for our end of term and end of year House entertainment where all years had lots of fun in the sun!

Given how unreliable and unpredictable the weather has been in May, we were incredibly lucky to have such wonderful sunshine for our tea party to thank House prefects for all their hard work and support during this year. We're going to miss you all!

Lack of sunshine and warm temperatures didn't spoil girls' enjoyment of ice cream on Saturday night!

Year 11 Mini Golf

Year 11 tutor, Miss Wright, arranged for all Year 11 Fonthill girls to enjoy a final activity together before heading off on study leave, and to wish them 'Good Luck' in their forthcoming GCSE exams.  A fun hour was spent at Victoria Park Mini Golf before sharing a meal together at an Italian restaurant. Congratulations Freya, Liv M and Liv C on your 'hole-in-one' triumphs, and to Ella for achieving the lowest score!

Term Triumphs

For the second term running, Cielle and Bella prepared an amusing and informative poem to sum up all Fonthill's activities and achievements. It's wonderful to see how busy everyone has been, and in so many different ways, and how much fund raising has been done for so many different charities:

The Spring term for Fonthill has been packed full, so here it is rounded up as a whole.

First up was Burns’ night, an annual treat, where haggis was provided for all to eat.  Mr Burgon played his bagpipes very well indeed, and there was much highland dancing, with Mrs Brown taking the lead. The night ended well, up on a high, with Cielle’s perfect delivery of the laddies’ reply. 

Next up was the sale of chocolate love hearts, with the year thirteens helping with their different parts. Our delivery right in time for Valentine’s day, helped us raise £225 which is more than okay. Nags ‘n’ Nippers and the Little Princess Trust, will benefit greatly with our help, which is a must.

The piano hands concert provided a fantastic evening, and it was lovely to see so many Fonthill girls beaming. There were some impressive ensembles like an undectet and many duets, well done to Nicole, Natalie, Karry and Christy whom we couldn’t forget!

The drama devised pieces have been as strong as ever, with the themes throughout being very clever. Well done to Sabrina, Emma, Liv, Fiona and Jess, who never cease to impress. Zoe’s dramatic appearance in her piece “1 in 6”, was one of the evening’s very best picks. As all of the controlled assessments keep on showing, the strengths of the drama department are continually growing.

The sixth form enjoyed some lovely meals, the Valentine’s dinner giving us a chance to wear our heels.  Our trip to Pizza Express was filled with fun, with the boys finishing our pizzas until there were none.

The annual sleep-out saw Jess bear the cold under the stars, whilst sleeping on the streets next to the cars. She took part to raise money for Julian House, so please sponsor her, even if she’s being as quiet as a mouse!

We had two Fonthill girls running the bath half this year, a huge well done to Hannah and Esmee, and all those who went to cheer. Their efforts running up and down hills caused them no disgust, whilst raising money for the bath Cats and Dogs home and the Genesis Trust.

The MUN conference was once again a big success, with over 500 students participating, ready to impress. Several Fonthill sixth form girls acted well in their roles as chairs, leading many debates on current and future affairs.

The Fonthill spirit was clear to see throughout the netball house matches, with some excellent play in several patches. Unfortunately we lost out to some very strong teams, but we managed to keep ourselves in high esteem. Well done to the year 10 b’s for their win, allowing them to give out a very big grin. Thank you to all who willingly got involved, as it shows how much our strengths this term have evolved.

A massive well done to Kelly, Issy, Esmee and Meg for their incredible efforts in the sponsored swim, it would be lovely if we all could sponsor them, a great amount, or even slim. The money raised goes towards the British Heart Foundation, so I think we can all agree it would be a worthwhile cause making a donation.

Cross country this year was a great event, and it’s a big excitement when you hit the descent. There were some fabulous runs from Alice, Louise, Lea and Chiara in years 9 and 10, and from Esmee and Charlotte in the seniors, who prove themselves time and again. Our Fonthill pyjama theme, really helped us to bond as a team!

This spring term is fast approaching its end, and the enthusiasm at house entertainment last night we must commend. The lively games of dodgeball between us in Fonthill and Hall, meant amusement was had by many and all.

Finally we must thank Mrs Sergeant and the tutors, who tirelessly help us to secure our futures. You have been there to help us whenever we need, and now it’s time to have a break and do as you plead. Good luck to all with revision over the Easter break, just remember girls, there’s a lot at stake! We’ll see you next term when hopefully the sun will shine, and don’t you worry, I’m sure your exams will be fine!

 

Cross Country Successes

It was lovely to see the sun shining for the cross country competitors although those in more casual attire found it rather hot work, but cannot be faulted for their House spirit!  Congratulations to Esmee who not only came 4th in the senior race, but also provided moral support running the course again with Westwood students, and then again with the Year 9 and 10 Fonthill girls!  Congratulations also to Charlotte P, Chiara, Louise and Alice for coming in the top 10 in their age group.
